Who Wins HVAC Clients on Google in Florida

On the HVAC replacement and installation card for Florida, most HVAC clients who search on Google land first on Yelp, Home Depot and other big platforms, not on HVAC companies: platforms and chains take 51% of the clicks on HVAC searches, installers 17%, and no single company more than 4%. Installers still win local, urgent searches, while forums, video and manufacturers win the searches where homeowners are still deciding. For an HVAC company, that means treating its Yelp profile as part of its website and building the pages that explain a decision better than a thread or a video does.

Who takes the clicks, by type of player

Type of player Share of clicks
Big platforms and chains 51%
HVAC companies 17%
Blogs, guides and comparison sites 14%
Video and social 12%
Manufacturers and brands 7%

Yelp is the front door for buyers ready to hire

On the needs where homeowners are ready to hire, the review platform comes first. Yelp takes about 31% of the clicks on routine maintenance, 25% on fast repair and 36% on finding a trusted installer. Home Depot adds 14% on fast repair, and Angi 5%.

Where HVAC companies still win

Installers do appear in the top clicks, mainly where the search is local and urgent:

Need HVAC companies in the top clicks
Keep my AC running with regular maintenance high5plumbing.com 8%, hendersonhtgandclg.com 7%
Get my AC working again fast reliableair.com 8%
Fix or replace a commercial AC meyer-depew.com 6%

None reaches the shares of the platforms, but each shows that a local company can hold a place on the first page.

Where brands, forums and video win

On the needs where homeowners are still deciding, the first page changes completely:

Need Who leads the clicks
Choose the right AC system for a Florida home Home Depot 16%, Carrier 12%, Trane 6%, Daikin 6%
Cool one room with a mini split minisplitsforless.com 14%, Home Depot 12%, Pioneer 11%
Decide whether to repair or replace an old AC YouTube 20%, AutoZone 12%, Reddit 7%
Stop my AC leaking water Reddit 27%, YouTube 14%
Control my AC with a smart thermostat energystar.gov 17%, Home Depot, Lowe's and PCMag 9% each

On these searches the answer comes from a forum thread, a video or a manufacturer, not from the company that will do the work.

What an HVAC company can do about it

One action for each finding:

  1. Review platforms. Treat the Yelp profile and its reviews as part of the website: on the hiring needs, that is where most buyers land first.
  2. Local and urgent needs. Build the pages where installers already break through: maintenance, fast repair and commercial AC, one per city served.
  3. Decision needs. Publish pages that explain the decision better than a thread or a video does: repair or replace, which system suits a Florida home, why an AC leaks.
